Armada Skis Photo Shoot Ride Guide TV

video

Ride Guide followed myself and the Armada Team on photo shoots from China to New Zealand last year. Sorry the video is so small, I couldn't upload a bigger one, but it's on The Ski Channel right now, Video on Demand, so check it out on your home TV in HD there. It's provided by most local cable companies free of charge.

Interesting times in China, JP was taking to the station by the secret police for wearing an Armada shirt....

Secret Photography Tip

I have been in this business for a long time and I don't like to mess around on shoots: I fly in, get the shot and get out. The novelty of hanging out in places like Government Camp, OR has long worn off.
Most of the magic on a ski or snowboard shoot happens all in a couple hours, so you have to bust ass to cover all the angles and maximize your return and the athletes' exposure.
How do you work so efficiently you might ask?
The answer: 2 cameras.
That means twice the amount of shots right?
So I put a nice fixed lens like an 85 or a 100 on a tripod with a pocket wizard and then I shoot another angle. That means I have to stay half as long to get twice as many shots (that didn't really make sense, but you know what I mean...). I've shot cover shots like this before.
Here's a good example:
There's me on the jump shooting a fisheye of Callum Petit boosting in the late day.
Here's the shot from the deck with some nice fill to give a totally differently look.
So of course, double the shots, double the cash in the pocket right?
Any questions?

Mike Parillo Paints. Time Lapse.

video
Mike Parillo is a friend of mine from way back. We first met when he was in front of my lens on a Volcom Snow Photo Shoot in Jackson Hole. An ex pro snowboarder, he's also a very accomplished artist and has done some of the best graphics in the Snowsports Industry. He's done skis for Armada and Snowboards for Lib Tech (Yes, Jamie Lynn's and Travis Rice's boards were his art) and Burton (Terje's pro model).

He's one of my all time favorite artists, and I commissioned him to paint these three pieces for my house and here's a timelapse of the art going down. So if you ever have been to my house and seen these faces hanging on the wall, this is where they came from.

Respect.

Drive by Shooting: Newport Beach, 4th of July

Just looking through my old photos and forgot to post my Drive By Shooting from the 4th of July last year. These were all shot from bicycle, because you just don't drive on the 4th of July in Newport Beach. This year, I got the hell out of town, too many 4ths in a row in Newport can get old, here's why:
That's a rip off for a taxi.
80's Speedboat, 80's chicks, cigarettes and a mohawk: Recipe for a good time!
Is this guy really pissed off or does he always look like that? Either way, no smart ass comments from me directed towards him.
Wait, I thought blow was legal?

If you are ever not quite sure if you are a douchebag, just tie a red bandana around your neck and you are guaranteed the title.

Paparazzi

I was just carrying it for a friend, and the weed in the backpack isn't mine either.
This sums it all up.
Here's a great idea that will get these guys a ton of chicks. Make an energy drink that looks like cocaine. Really smart. Literally thousands of girls in the streets, 3 dudes on a balcony. Guess it the million dollar idea didn't work out too well.

The cops were hamming it up with all the chicks they could find, why not?
See you next year!
