The Best Pow Day of the Year in Los Angeles: Mt. Baldy, January 23, 2010

Been on the road all winter and finally getting to some of my sorts and came across this day, which is one from vault for sure.
I live at the beach in Orange County, 45 minutes from Mt. Baldy and I have always heard how good it can be, but never seem to make it up there on a powder day. I came home from a long trip on Friday, and it was raining hard at sea level and dumping in the local mountains here in Southern California, and it was supposed to be full sun on Saturday. I had to leave for Europe on Sunday, but I figured I would give it a shot, not expecting much at all from a powder day in Los Angeles.
It was all time, 2 feet of blower powder, steep trees, and I could see the buildings of downtown LA in the distance. What a trip.

The drive up to Mt. Baldy, snow levels were low, pink sunrise.

Our friend Lee was our drove up there, but we were giving him so much shit for driving the sickest off road vehicle out there like a douche. Typical SoCal. His other car is a Porsche 930 Turbo, he should know how to drive fast.
Near the bottom of Baldy.
Natty Light in the lift line? Yes, they were a standard accessory.
Pat and OC. Team ShredPowLA.
View of a good portion of the resort, good terrain.
Steep pow tree skiing and I was riding my bike on the beach in a t shirt that evening.
El Nino always brings good snow years to California.
Hiking for our last run, a big steep chute all the way to the parking lot.
This looks like something you would see in Tahoe, not Los Angeles County.
Epic day, I won't miss another pow day at Baldy if I am in town!

Cribs: Mountain High

Life on the road is tough, but when you have a place like this to stay in, it makes all the hard work and traveling worthwhile.

The Worst Half Pipe Crash I Have Ever Seen

Simon Dumont had the worst half pipe crash I have ever seen today at X Games 14 pipe practice.
First off, let me say this isn't a good sequence, I wasn't really ready and kinda had to scramble to get into position, so I cut him off on a few frames, but you will get the picture.
Simon did a 15 plus foot double flip and landed on his side on the icy coping of the pipe. The sound his body made was horrendous and he was knocked unconscious and laying in the bottom of the pipe it was scary and sickening. I really thought he was traumatically injured.
About 10 minutes later, he walked away. Simon Dumont is one tough cookie, he's made of muscle and trains hard, no ordinary human could have survived this crash, the impact on the lip was like hitting cement. We are all glad Simon is okay and he plans to compete this week in the pipe. Superhuman.

Drive By Shooting: Washington DC, Christmas 2009

It's Christmas Afternoon, so in between lots of cookies and lots of Turkey and Ham, I took a drive and took some shots of the beautiful White Christmas we had here in DC.

When I was a kid, there was a pretty good chance of getting car jacked or robbed around this area in the evening, now there is a Whole Foods.
